AD mostly stellar, Bron was strong for most of the 1st half but that's about it for positives in this game 1.

third quarter offense is what cost the Lakers this game. the rebounding problem reared it's ugly head too

But it can’t be this way where 1 guy gets the call to go off and everyone else just stands around and watches. We’ve looked like our best version of ourselves when the ball moves, the open 3s start dropping and AD is just commanding the paint on defense.

D'Lo to decide cement his ouster from Los Angeles next game. Afraid he teased us with the roll he has been on. Shrinks in the big moments. That is what separates average from great or even good. I always think of James Worthy and how he was better in the post season. Big Game James. I guess D'Lo is small game d'lo

Not really going to stop Denver, so need to put up points

You need him to a large degree, it’s about how you use him when he does / doesn’t have it going imo. That’s controlled by the guy on the bench.

Also, not just cut him. He will opt out and get a decent payday from the Lakers.

He’s going to command $25M / per season now.

Pretty solid game from LAL. Just not good enough for a more talented Denver team

Saw a stat where the Nuggets ran organized offense 67-68% every single quarter. The Lakers ran organized offense 60% in the first half (scored 60pts) and like 40% in the 2nd half (scored 43pts). Lakers have been near unbeatable in games when running a high % of organized offense this season and there need to be adjustments made to stay organized. This likely has to do with coaching - calling timeouts and getting organized when the other team makes adjustments that got you unorganized.

Coaching is the only thing that can keep that organization flowing but for our team there has to be a move away from stand around and dump it to AD / stand around watch Lebron iso. Ham seems to want to force feed AD (I’m guessing to make Jokic play defense) and turns a blind eye to Lebron over dominated the ball. Offense takes an interesting look when Austin gets to initiate the offense particularly with Lebron setting the pick up high. DLo should be doing the same with AD on the other side imo. The ball has to move, should never stick for more than a second or 2, 3 dribbles max then move.

They seem to have a tougher time covering Austin in actions compared to DLo. At this point I think I'd rather have DLo on the weakside getting open looks than using Austin in that way vs them. Austin is better at navigating the actions and drawing fouls and is still a good passer. DLo can catch and shoot on the weakside.

On the other side of the ball we truly missed another player who can step up on defense. AD held Jokic and Gordon to 2/10 shooting and had 4 blocks. We can't ask for anything more from him on that end.

It's telling that most of the gripes are scheme oriented. The way to beat the Nugs is to out coach them and that hasn't happened.
I mean Ham started Shroder DLo and Reaves vs them last season in Game 1. He's got one more game to figure it out or he's canned.

He is simply outclassed and outmatched. Waiting for him to figure out Malone’s moves and counter moves is like waiting for Rip Hamilton to figure out Kobe’s moves and stop them. He had his chance to deep dive and dial in what he wanted to achieve against the Nuggets but once things got a little shaky he watched the whole thing spiral again with no answers. We are still 1 rotational player away from having the personnel to beat the best too imo. Our bench is anemic with all our scorers as starters.

Ham wants to have AD roam with Rui guarding him, but you can't have anyone roam against Denver. Maybe leave Gordon for ooen 3s, but then you lose contact for the backdoor to Gordon. I am sure Ham will switch AD to start on Joker and Ham is already scrambling with assignments. The Joker figured out Rui last year after Rui did a good job on him 1 game. AD is a top defender. Put him on the league's best player and let the chips fall where they may.

Then the series would be over.

We’d have smashed OKC 1st round had it shook down that way.
