Highlights of game 2 of the 2009 Western Semi Finals Conference Found this on Youtube this morning and had to post here. Kobe absolutely destroyed the Rockets. He got Artest thrown out the game and Shane Battier looked invisible trying to guard the Mamba. Enjoy! www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi1MQ3SsWwY

Kobe had Battier in his back pocket what's amazing is Battier defended Kobe about as good as anybody can and Kobe still cooked him many many times. Gave him 30, 40, even a 50 piece or two. Nobody other than Kobe (and maybe Ben Wallace) ever had the balls to match Artest's physicality. Much less throw a freaking elbow at Artest's mouth under the rim. That's ballsy. Artest was absolutely flabbergasted and ended up getting ejected. Probably the first time someone did that to him in his life. We could pin a thread to the top of this forum for users to post Kobe memories every now and then. There's so many.

Another cool thing is that Artest and Kobe became buds after that. Respect.

The way Battier's hand is about 2 inches from Kobe's face when Kobe drains some of those shots is amazing.
I miss Kobe man. He had alot more to give.

The manufactured discussion that centers around cultural mythology is just noise to fill the air.

Yes, but unfortunately those guys don't control the narrative. The pundits on tv do. Yes they do but they don’t define truth. They pander to what they can sell. Ask the kids playing today, far more point to Kobe over every other player as their idol. That speaks to a greater truth than media conglomerates can manufacture.

Ask the kids playing today, far more point to Kobe over every other player as their idol. That speaks to a greater truth than media conglomerates can manufacture. Define what you mean by "kids". If you're talking about college players or very young NBA players then I think you have a point. If you're talking about teens though, then I would disagree with that. Even if you're referencing the former however, it's unfortunate because Kobe's greatness deserves to be in the conversation of those who would be considered GOAT material (although I understand this is a very subjective topic) by those who have a platform to discuss this with the loudest voices in the media. Trust and believe Kobe's contribution to the game would sell to the public even TODAY if guys like Shannon Sharpe and SAS would stop slurping Lebron/Jordan as #1 or #2 and start recognizing how Kobe was better than both of those guys in different ways.

When Kobe got to play against the Wade/Lebron Heat just a couple games after Wade broke Kobes nose in the allstar game. Started off the game by immediately embarrassing Wade multiple times until Heat put Battier on him which changed nothing. Light work 33 with 4th quarter daggers.

I still think my favorite Kobe game was when he alone led the Mavs 63-62 after 3 quarters.
That Mavs team then made the finals that season so that game was more impressive than dropping 81 on Jalen Rose and Co.

This game is my favorite Kobe moment of all time. www.youtube.com/watch?v=79y_YCkHhsoIt's not only that Kobe hit 2 incredibly hard 3's first on Ruben Patterson who called himself the "Kobe stopper" to extend the game into OT, and then to win it in double overtime on a crazy 3 points with Theo Ratliffe running at him. He did this back in 2004 when Kobe was going through his rape trial and when his relationship with Shaq was at its all-time worst. It speaks to Kobe's level of focus in being the best player he could be through something that would destroy other players mentally. The Lakers actually won the Pacific division on that shot as well heading into the playoffs that year with Shaq, Kobe, Malone, and Payton. This in my opinion was Kobe's darkest year as a player. The season didn't end well but this game will always be my top moment watching him because of what he was personally dealing with. And Portland has historically been a city where the Lakers have a very difficult time winning, especially in the early 2000s. As a fan of Batman, he wasn't always the Dark Knight. He still had to learn a few things and get further refined by the best villains. Once he got to that next level, he became the Dark Knight. To me on this night in 2004, Kobe became the Black Mamba.

today is 4 years fwiw. Time has flown by. Statue day is in 13 days. 2-8-24, perfect date for the unveiling. Mamba jerseys being worn that night, unfortunately vs the Nuggets though (and potentially short-handed from trade deadline day). At least they have 2 days off leading up, so LBJ and AD should be rested and ready. Eager to see what pose they chose.

Kobe will get his statue today before the game. Laker Film Room looks back at Game 7 2010.
