I'm puzzled how we've been so bad at hiring coaches since Phil left. You would think you'd have a better shot just throwing darts at a wall full of coaches' names. I think it's indicative of an owner and a GM beholden to that owner that us paranoid of hiring a coach that is an independent and strong mind. They want control, not competence. It's a similar situation with the Dodgers and Dave Roberts. So much talent for so long leading to nothing. Jeanie’s approach as a leader is to trust her confidants. It’s clear those confidants do not know the game well enough to pick a great coach. Not everyone can. When push came to shove Jerry rightfully fired Del Harris, correctly so, then eventually ponied up to get Phil because he was suddenly available. She passed on Ty Lue when presented with a gift wrapped slam dunk of a signing and she goes and hires Francis Vogel.

Reggie Miller: “I think Darvin Ham has done an unbelievable job!”
All I can do is shake my head at these tv pundits who don’t follow the team that say nonsense.

They don't follow any one team consistently. They parachute into their games, do a little due diligence, and then call it a day. These guys also can't go too far down the criticism road or they won't get their interviews, team access, inside scoops, etc. The ones that do that don't end up announcers or play by play people too long. The days of Chick Hearns are long gone.

Yeah reportedly wanted him replaced with Phil Handy. I know Phil has been great at player development and he has been clamoring for a head coaching gig but not sure about his coaching chops as he has never been a head coach. If the report is true, seems some players trusted him at least more to be at the helm than they trust Ham. I always believed this was the only scenario if Ham was somehow fired mid-season, which I didn't think would happen. We'll see what happens in the offseason. If Lue doesn't become available, elevate Handy and hire Rondo (Redick?) as an assistant.

Some of the other franchise's announcer teams are blatantly homerific, which leads to the mute button lol.

And I can't imagine Lue would even want to coach us at this point, with this Lebron and supporting cast.

Just so we are clear I blame Pelinka for a lot of things - He massively overpaid for AD when he was an expiring contract and was bidding against himself and no one else - was the GM for the brain dead Muscala/Zubac trade - Part of the management that bungled the Ty Lue hire - Let Kawhi Leonard play him like a fiddle - Let Dwight walk after the championship season because he took too long to accept their MINIMUM offer - Westbrook trade for KCP, Kuzma, Harrell, and also led to - letting Caruso walk and also that trade led to - using like 7 roster spots to sign washed up minimum salary bums like Trevor Ariza, Wesley Matthews, Kent Bazemore and whoever the fuck else was old and didn't play defense and would never work with Vogel coaching. - Let Schroder walk who ended up signing for the minimum (first time) - Hired Darvin Ham - Kendrick Nunn signing - Gabe Vincent signing based on like 10 good playoff games - Did little to nothing to address the Lakers rebounding problem that cost the Lakers any chance vs Denver in the playoffs including not acquiring a competent big man to coexist and relieve Anthony Davis - overruled Lakers scouts and drafted JHS over Whitmore. You left out "continued to sign non 1st round rookies to short contracts". That alone impacted the free agency of Caruso, Reaves, and now Christie a year before it was necessary. That was a factor in losing Caruso and may be for Christie as well.

I don't know if Handy is the right choice for head coach. He's a player development guy (or at least has been to this point).

The entire coaching staff, including Handy, was fired, no? Yes. Although Handy may or may not be hired back on by the next coach. My guess is he's going elsewhere but never know.

He was fired, so I doubt he has any interest in coming back, even if we were interested.
Firing the entire staff means to me the Laker FO and perhaps Lebron and AD want a clean slate refresh.
What we need more though are players who can move and defend rather than have half-assed attempts at lifting your arms thinking that is enough.

What we need more though are players who can move and defend rather than have half-assed attempts at lifting your arms thinking that is enough. We have players who can move and defend. Remember when fans were saying we needed “shooters” and pointed to our low 3p% as a team? Then we started running an offense that generated 3p shots by design rather than a last resort then BOOM three players on our team are top 10 in the NBA in percentage. It’s about strategy not just ability. Of course if you have players that have ability and you deploy the strategy it is peak basketball stuff but it’s not necessary in order to be successful. Karl Anthony Towns is one of the worst defending bigs of this era and he went in there and HANDLED Nikola Jokic on Denver’s floor in a must win situation. That’s about collective effort and supporting one another defensively with a leader keeping you on the same page.
