Two a day again. Kelly and X out again
First session:
Media was let in and scrimmages were going on. Kobe looked sharp, abused whoever guarded him. They changed the lineups like every 5 points. Nick Young subbed in and switched off with Wesley Johnson, and hit the game winning 3 for the "starters" after getting Wesley Johnson to bite on a pump fake. 19-17. Then they did more sprints. Randle and Wesley won the sprints/suicide drills for their bigs/guards. Kobe Boozer Nash sat those out.
Asked who's impressed him in camp, Kobe mentioned rookie Jordan Clarkson, saying how surprised he is that Clarkson fell to LAL in the draft.
Byron Scott asked if anyone has surprised him so far: "Ronnie Price really has my attention. He's a pit bull, really gets after people."
“I really believe Nick has a chance to be Sixth Man of the Year,” Scott said. “That’s just my vision of the way I think he can play in the system that we have. So I think that type of weapon coming off the bench for us when we need somebody to score, he’s obviously capable of doing that.
“And he’s doing it within the perimeter of our offense, as well. So it’s not like he’s taking bad shots. He’s running all the plays. … If he can keep growing on that end of the floor and on the defensive end as well, which I thought he did a great job of today as well, like I said, I think the sky’s the limit for him.”
Byron Scott estimated today's practice was 15-20% offense (yesterday, he estimated about 10%).
Really high accolades from Kobe to Nick Young: "He's a really really really big piece to this team."
Kobe on Jordan Clarkson: "I think that was a steal of a pick." "Great pace, great feel for the game...Can shoot the deep ball"
Byron on Jeremy Lin: "Jeremy's looking great. He's just pure hustle. He just plays so hard, and he's so smart. He has a nose for the ball."
Steve Nash on Jeremy Lin's strengths: "He get's to the basket. He can really get in there at the rim cause problems, create fouls."
Lin has only played point guard in scrimmages. Good sign
Nash on Clarkson: "I think Jordan looks great. I think he's a bright kid who picks things up quickly. He has a lot of poise for his age."
