China would never invade the USA. It is about as uninvadable as any country in the history of mankind. Losing strategy. They know we don't have the stomach for what it would take to fend them off or liberate an occupied Taiwan.
They'll just do whatever the fuck they want when they want over there. There's little to nothing we or anybody else can really do about it and China knows this. If they want total control over Taiwan they'll take it but will do so strategically to limit resistance. I believe it's only a matter of time. Its an ace in their sleeve right now and they don't mind holding on to it to use at the right time.

I forgot to mention this in my Taiwan post but very recently, about 2-3 weeks ago, a General in the US went to Congress with a dire warning about the Chinese military’s advancement in recent years. He said the Chinese right now can currently spend 1/20th the amount of our military does and get the same net results.
This of course is due to the structure of private contractors in the US and the annual gift Congress bestows them, Lockheed Martin, Haliburton, Boeing et al, and all of the inefficiency of private sector. Those companies celebrate the billions they each get year after year, pay exorbitant salaries to executives, manage stock prices and look to increase profits year after year. They build tanks that never fire and planes that don’t fly. All with taxpayers money. This is why any conservative that tells you they are for lower taxes is full of shit. US taxpayers pay more towards private contractor military developers than any other country on earth by a wide mile. Do you hear any protest from conservatives about it? N-E-V-E-R. If they were any more full of shit they’d be a dildo in a West Hollywood bathroom stall.
China, by contrast develops its own weapons at the state level, no profiteers in the middle, and OMG they spend 1/20th what we do and still are gaining ground.
The General who spoke of this naturally was not asking for the US to reconsider its parasitic relationship with private profiteers but rather for us to authorize even more money to the same inefficient private companies. This is why we fail.

There needs to be age limits on the presidency. This senile batshit fool is in way over his head.

Manchin just dunked on McConnell balls in the face Kobe on Nash style. That gets applause from me, can't stand that moron. But can't help but think Manchin has now committed another form of career suicide, this time within his own state. I doubt he wins an election there ever again now. If only more politicians were interested in getting things done instead of extending their service time. Put limits on all government terms, same as the president (2 terms). Government service is not supposed to be a path to wealth but instead service to your country.

samadams10I don’t think they’ve surpassed the US in terms of military yet but it also depends on how you view it. The US spends more on its military than any other country, 7-20 times depending on the country. This means every American that pays taxes pays 7-20 times more in taxes on “defense” for the military that plays “offense” with over 300 military bases stationed across the globe. China doesn’t spread its military around the globe occupying sovereign nations and poor countries. I also doubt they would call it “defense” if they did. So when you have a military so stretched, not centralized like China’s is it really more powerful because we technically have more tanks and guns? They could amass an army that would dwarf ours if they chose to. They have 1.4 billion people. An Air Force General in the US said China already has the largest fleet of air defense in the Pacific and will surpass the US’s Air Force in terms of technological advancement by 2035. He may even be conservative in that estimation, never underestimate the power of true motivation. Economically it’s not even close in terms of pace right now between the US and China. China WILL surpass the US as the worlds leading economy before the end of this decade. This has been known and projected for some time. China has lifted 700 million peasants out of poverty since the 1990s, an economic tsunami unseen in the history of human civilization. It took other countries hundreds of years to industrialize and build a “middle class” and China’s done it in roughly 30 years. Home ownership in China is 96%, they have 300mph trains that connect all over the country. Lots of progress in the last few decades with no other country even close over the same time frame. Of course US corporations helped to pave the way for this vitalization of the Chinese economy. Why build something in the US, where workers were demanding things like a living wage and retirement package when you can defect to China, pay a fraction of the cost to workers and then just create a shipping logistics nightmare that pays ZERO mind to the ecological effects of polluting the oceans and air, in order to accommodate the endless fleets of cargo coming in and out of US ports. This is the root of the US’s “supply chain issues.” So now that everything Americans buy comes from China, including nearly everything sold at Wal Mart, Amazon and Target, this means the Walton family and Bezos became billionaires by outsourcing to China. Trump’s enterprises did the same as did Mitt Romney’s. But now that it has resulted in China’s economic rise, they are immediately scapegoated by the hucksters in Washington and reality TV land. Personally I find it offensive when I read US mainstream media write about China like this today from the Associated Press: “U.S. officials have also criticized China's “zero-COVID” policy of mass testing and lockdowns in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19 in its territory, labeling it misguided and fretting that it will further slow global economic growth. Other points of strain include China’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims, which the U.S. has declared a genocide, its militarization in the South China Sea and its global campaign of economic and political espionage.” Did you hear that Sam? US officials have labeled China’s Covid response as “misguided!” They should let the virus rage in their densely populated country. If they don’t it means global economic growth will slow. LOLOLOL. The Chinese economy has grown by 7-10% most years since the turn of the century. Even 13% one or 2 years. The US economy has been trickling along at 1-2% the same time frame. Of course Trump came in and claimed he’d get us to 3% and when he got it to 2% it was the “greatest economy the world has ever seen.” LOLOLOL. And when did the US declare the Uyghur’s a genocide? Was it before or after we pulled out of Afghanistan and 20+ years of illegal occupation, and millions killed? Is that a “genocide?” Should we also factor in Iraq? Libya? Syria? Somalia? An absolute joke, on every level that can only be pushed within a highly propagandized society.

lakeshow Speaking of DeSantis and Florida, now in Florida a US Veteran can now get a teaching job after 12 hours of observing a classroom. What a joke and a slap in the face to folks who actually went through a program to better their competency in the craft, did many hours of observation, and training before they got their credential to teach. But I think what this is really about is DeSantis wanting to bring conservative individuals in the classroom as a pushback against what he calls "woke" education. Most people that are in the military lean to the right politically and DeSantis is absolutely against anything and anyone who insists on respecting and teaching history that makes the U.S. look bad in any way and against any teacher who will teach proper science. The state turns more and more into a joke and I really do feel for teachers who have had to put up with DeSantis' dangerous antics during the pandemic.

By the way, I'm loving the discussion going on in here.
I haven't (regrettably) taken enough time to understand the geopolitics when it comes to Taiwan but have always wanted to get informed about that part of the world. I've been busy doing graduate school work that I haven't had much time to carefully read through these posts, but it's refreshing to see you guys intelligently discuss these serious topics.

Yes, the move is about a lot of things imo but you definitely hit an important point about indoctrination. Every other country on Earth calls it “education” but in the South they call it “woke” because they have no other retort but to give it a label and play it up as a “sides” issue. The US education system is flawed but conservatives don’t want to fix it, they want to end public school system altogether. The average American should see this as a threat to their way of life, the inherent right of a citizen to an education, etc but instead they buy the bullshit that people who don’t want to pay taxes sell. Insulting to say the least and dangerous to society.

Conservatives run these states and they continue to con their own constituencies to vote against issues that are in their best socioeconomic interests year after year. Amazing The South is also the most welfare dependent on the federal government. When Newt Gingrich was a Rep in Georgia while railing against “welfare queens” in California and New York he routinely requested more and more federal assistance in his district. He couldn’t help turn any communities in his distinct to generate wealth, so he relied on federal aid to sustain. That’s welfare and the hypocrisy of figures like him. I agree it’s astounding how this voting block continually votes against its own interest but tbh I see it on the left side too, namely on healthcare. Fox News poll day of the election 2020 and something like 70% of Fox viewers supported Medicare for All. I was in shock but saw that similar polls for the center leaning news outlets show less support than Fox News viewers. Blew my mind. It’s in no one’s interest except private insurers of maintaining the current system. Medical bankruptcy is the number 1 cause of bankruptcy in the US and yet another anomaly that doesn’t exist anywhere else on earth including 3rd world countries. The Insurance giants have Congress lined in their pockets and routinely write what can and cannot be included in any legislation over healthcare. That’s what Obamacare was, a concession to the insurance agencies in exchange for some consumer protections, caps on a few select costs. Most of the framework for it was written by the Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, for Mitt Romney when he was Governor of Massachusetts. He adopted it and it was known as Romneycare. Obama, imo, adopted this because he knew Republicans couldn’t label it “socialized medicine” because it wasn’t. But they still did anyway because their constituents wouldn’t know one way or another. Politically it was the right move at the time but had no where left to go within a short time. The private insurers still had the power to set costs over care and simply increased those prices year after year. Trump came along and blasted Obamacare as “terrible” when he was campaigning and then claimed he’d have the “best healthcare plan” if elected. He never even came up with a single idea for it his entire presidency. Just another sham from a career sham artist. I imagine the internal conversations about it within his cabinet went something like this: “What can we do about healthcare? What are our options?” “Sir, Obamacare is already conservative legislation, it was written by the Heritage Foundation.” “You mean we can’t make a better deal for healthcare?” “Sir, the only options are to expand on Obamacare which our private donors don’t want or create a universal healthcare program but that would be socialism.” Trump stares into the abyss and decides he simply won’t talk about the subject of healthcare anymore. The chimps hoot and holler.

I know I’m rough on lakerfan1980 but I can’t stand no point having loud mouths. This is true of basketball fans and even more true on real life important matters. Say something original, add a unique viewpoint, give back substance not 4 word sentence grunts. I give no respect to someone who has nothing to say but shouts out artificially inseminated talking points.
