It’s tough to swallow that a $500 pair of shoes can do so much damage.
I just looked at the BBB website and now those same shoes are selling for $700. His most expensive pair are $5000.
Feels like a con job tbh.

Ingram is the only player worth mentioning today. Lonzo looked awesome in his Bulls stint before his legs started crumbling. I read a report that the Lakers still think the problems came from wearing his shitty BBB shoes. Looks like NO has one more pick coming from us, in 24 or they can defer to 25. As long as we take care of business the pick will be marginal. Unless the Lakers really struggle this season, I imagine the Pelicans will defer that pick to 2025 as Lebron and AD could be gone for the 24/25 season.

I think we did pretty well overall. FO seemed to have a very thought out strategy. Rui and Reaves being treated like must keeps may seem like no brainers but we’ve seen the FO make dumb mistakes in the past that were no brainers. They retained both, Reaves particularly on a low scale deal which is a win for the FO, loss for Austin. Then they also negotiated D’Angelo down to almost half the rate he was paid last season; huge win. They dumped the garbage, Beasley and Bamba and replaced both with solid cheap alternatives. More wins. I don’t know a lot about either draft pick but I’m excited to see a bit of them both in Summer league. I think positionally speaking both were solid vetted targets. Big scoring PG and long rangy wing… both look like archetypes of the modern game. Overall B+ from me. I was waiting for the other center slot to get filled but it has been a frigging month now. So for now I agree with your B+.

B- after that mega max extension for Streetclothes Nah dogg, I’m not sure where you’re picking up on this being a bad move… lakersground? He’s a superstar, a top 10 talent and top 5 when fully healthy and engaged. What’s the plan to take care of players like this from the pundits perspective? Tell him to prove it by playing 70 games? Do you risk allowing him to become an unrestricted FA? There are major risks with not extending. Maybe fans think that dropping him after 2025 would have been the way to go, but then what? Who fills those shoes? Lebron will be gone by then, so there will be 4 huge shoes to fill. Free agency is setup to mostly retain star players. We no longer see the Shaq / Lebron type moves of megastars leaving their nest and joining new teams. They take the Supermax money then ask for trades. So imo you can’t build in FA like you used to… role players yes, superstars, no. I’m skeptical AD can play 65-70 games a season but the truth is it’s a challenge for a lot of players now. Still comes down to the most talented players left standing come June. I think we will be a-ok with this contract. We just saved 50% on Austin Reaves over 4 years (he’ll likely opt out after 3) and saved solid money on D’Angelo. The team isn’t hurting for money so I’m not worried about it.

I think he was motivated to play more games last season and have the great playoff run because he knew the extension date was coming, just like he did in 2020 prior to the last extension. Like I said in the other thread I expect now he will revert back to missing half the games as he did in 2021 and 2022. In 2021 he got hurt in the playoffs too. You may say that was bad scheduling that year but the dude was in his late 20s and physical peak at the time, and he will be in his 30s for these remaining years. Assuming he will miss half the games and half the playoffs, do I think he is worth the megamax and the resulting cap hit and constraints? No. I dont care about jeannies money I care about the cap space we are forgoing. Also with him entering his 30s he may even end up more like Kawhi and miss most of the games. Clippers have been screwed. But I think about half the games is the most likely outcome with AD. I hope to be wrong and be pleasantly surprised. You guys do make a good point that there may not be better options for that cap space anyways.

Clippers have been screwed. But I think about half the games is the most likely outcome with AD. I hope to be wrong and be pleasantly surprised. You guys do make a good point that there may not be better options for that cap space anyways. That’s the biggest overall point. Some fans get caught up in idealism when it comes to the cap. Like, if we don’t extend AD it magically means Giannis takes his place “because we have cap.” It doesn’t work like that anymore and you have to use your money in order to compete. A year ago considering where we were standing paying Westbrook more money than Bron and AD and all our depth gutted it was a sad prospect projecting the future and what to do around roster. But since then we’ve scored a gem of undrafted player in Reaves, heisted Rui Hachimura from Washington for peanuts then flipped Russ for Vando and DLo. Overall excellent marks for the FO. They’ve built upon that success by retaining all 3 of the aforementioned players who were FA to excellent team friendly deals thereby leveraging our spending power to maintain depth, rather than sink it all in 3 players. Once AD’s mega deal kicks in, we will have dropped Lebron from the cap freeing up ~ $50M in capspace making his 60+ that much less detrimental. Hood Schifino and Maxwell Lewis will be paid in peanuts and potato chips so why care about “overpaying” for Davis if he continues his non durable streak? Does that hurt the team if he’s unavailable? Sure. Does not having him at all hurt more? Easily. If he’s banged up and broken down by 2026/27 what does it do to our team besides take up space we wouldn’t be spending on someone else anyway? I like our team right now and truthfully I think we have an excellent shot at winning 2024. Problems of 2027 and beyond can be dealt with when they are reality imo.

There isn't much point in sticker shock over $60M+ per year salaries in general. They're just an indication of how much farther the overall cap is going to increase, as max players are limited to a set percentage of that cap. For the 3 years of the extension, the cap is projected to be $156M, $172M, and $189M. The first year of the extension, AD would be at 35% of the cap, decreasing slightly each of the following two years.

Allright the roster is full for now. I am back to B+ now lol. You guys talked me in to the AD extension and I like the Wood signing.

I moved my needle to A- after signing Wood and seeing Castleton in Summer League. Hard to deny Rob the A outright because he worked some real magic juggling all those FA signings in real time but I really wanted Naz Reid or Bruce Brown and both of them were signed beyond our financial means available.

I feel like Rob lucked out a bit with Reaves though since the Spurs backed off. I really thought one of those teams with cap space would poison pill us knowing we would match, just to screw us.

That wouldn't have affected the cap for this season or next though, just beyond (and likely would've locked in Reaves for that 4th year instead of his player option).

If Vincent continues to kill it though, then it may end up an A I should be banned for this post above. Signing Vincent over Dennis drops the grade down to a C.

Can’t predict who’s going to be injured and who isn’t. Still, with Vincent playing a cool 5 games and shooting a crisp 11% from 3 that move alone goes from A to D.

Dude better come back and have a DFish playoff run if he has any hope of gaining some love back from Lakers nation. I might give Rob a slight break by getting Dinwiddie on the buyout market as Vincents replacement... if Dinwiddie can find his mojo here.
