When I look at this team, I find myself perplexed. They should not be this bad. So when I look at statistics, there is one or two that really stand out. They have everything to do with the 3 point shot.
The Lakers have the worst 3 point shot differential in the entire league. And it’s not even close. It’s such an outlier that I find it mind boggling. The Lakers have made 130 less 3 point shots than their opponents in just 36 games. That’s amazing. The next highest differential is 85 (Chicago). To make this even more compelling is the Lakers allow a league worst 14.4 3 pointers per game.
This has to be obvious to the coaches. Personally, I think the lineup musical chairs approach is affecting the chemistry. It would make sense that would affect the 3 point shot (offense and defense) most.

Nothing annoys me more than the crowd who cries about us shooting (and missing) 3’s.
“Just post AD”
“Just drive to the paint”
“Stop shooting 3s”
Nothing could be more idiotic than to listen to these people. We *have to* shoot them in order to compete, period. If you don’t play a style of basketball that not only shoots them but seeks them out by design of ball movement, you lose. Period.
At least now we can see that Westbrook, for all his faults and shortcomings as an aging star, wasn’t necessarily *the* problem that media repeated without context.

The reason why the Clippers offense has taken off since the Harden trade is that every player on the floor for them can shoot the 3 except Zubac. To Zubi’s credit he moves the ball quickly when he’s out of position and he’s highly focused on his role when he plays.
Everyone else is like a loaded gun waiting to fire.
Compare that to our defense heavy lineups that include Vando, Cam, and sometimes Hayes all of whom struggle shooting the ball. I say you can tow 1 player at a time like this out there on the floor but not 2 and definitely not 3.
When AD is reluctant to shoot from deep it hurts too. He should be better and more comfortable than he’s been from out there.
Only Lebron, AR and DLo play with the type of mindset that we need all players to have when it comes to shooting from distance. Rui imo should shoot more and play more.

Truly amazing that the Lakers not only are last in 3 pointers made against them, but they are second to last in 3 pointers made (just above Detroit). I’m not a stat genius, but I wonder if there has ever been a team with a more negative 3 point differential.
So on average, every game we are negative 11 points as far as 3 point shooting is concerned. In today’s NBA that should translate to one of, if not the worst teams in the entire league. I think it’s a testament to how good AD, Reaves and LeBron has been this year.
There is no way in this NBA era any team can do anything in the playoffs with the poor long ball shooting and defense we are displaying. Hoping they can fix it, but certainly not betting on it.

Problem is, there seems to be a Lakers tax on 3pt shooters. When they acquire one, they immediately drop at least 5% from 3. I think the dependence on AD and Lebron likely freezes out the shooters to some degree? To combat both ends of the 3 pt issue at the same time, the Lakers need two way players that can shoot and defend the perimeter (and defensive concepts that keep them home on the shooters). I don't know how often I see defenders slacking off of the 3 pt line to double team, leaving wide open shots for Lakers' opponents.
