Abolish it and then elect in what way though? Are we then relying on the majority of voting populace being reasonable and or well-informed? Hillary won California alone by 2.7 million votes which is more than her projected margin of victory nation wide. Electoral College still ensures people are not ruled as colonies by massive "blue" (or "red") states. We are living and dying by ignorance either way

“If the manner of it be not perfect, it is at least excellent." -Alexander Hamilton California and New York don't need any more electoral votes imo. But sure, let's say California and New York each get 10 more combined Senators/Representatives. That's 20 more electoral votes for Clinton which brings her to 252. Still not enough to win right? She lost important states she was expected to win easily including your own state of PA. Gerrymandering. That reality alone is enough of a reason IMO to abolish the electoral college. If the process in place now, original framers ideas or not, is fraught with corruption and political manipulation then it fails to achieve its intended purpose. Bingo. Was just talking about that last week. States willfully manipulating voting districts to keep them a particular color politically. You see a lot of this manipulation and cheating in the southern states, particularly Louisiana, Texas, and North Carolina. No matter how "blue" these states are turning every year, these states will continually be "red" states in every national election despite the rapidly changing demographics of the country. As 2B said, that is just one of several reasons to abolish this undemocratic nonsense in the electoral college if there is not going to be any federal oversight of redistricting.

Trump winning the election was a combination of so many factors but the Republican appointed Supreme Court Justices repealed The Voting Rights Act of 1965 in 2013 due to a change in social climate. These justices argued that the protections were no longer needed like they were 50 years ago. 100% BS and simply a part of a bigger plot by the Republican Party to use this ruling in conjunction with Gerrymandering to manipulate the system in their favor come 2016. And they did just that.

And they did just that. Yup Along with eliminating the number of voting places in largely black voting areas to discourage black voter turnout, as well as eliminating Sunday voting which is a big tradition for the older generation of blacks. And these Mickey Mouse discriminatory voting ID laws were designed to keep older blacks who many were born without birth certificates and too old to drive from voting because they make up a large percentage of the Democratic votes (along with African-Americans in general). These people were legally voting all their lives with ease (after the 1965 Voting Rights Act), and now Republicans in these states want to stop them from voting. What the Supreme Court ruled was a total sham and an embarrassment to democracy.

What the Supreme Court ruled was a total sham and an embarrassment to democracy. They are dangerous individuals with a lot of power and now since Scalia's death and Republican obstruction of Obamas appointed Justice they will look to place the most callously corrupt official they can in office. They can get away with it because Americans are trained like lap dogs from a young age through adulthood to only care about themselves and their consumption. This enables relatively smart people to vote based on faith, turn a blind eye to real actions then carry on with their selfish lives of empty consumption.

Yeah same here, but this election was so unusual and bothersome to me that I felt compelled to start this thread even if it ruffled some feathers. If this was any other election under normal conditions we are used to seeing with a different candidate I wouldn't of bothered. But we've been talking for years on this messageboard and on ESPN so I feel like ya'll are like my friends in a way......lol.

They should be re-adjusted for population periodically at the very least. What is wrong with majority vote truthfully? If you're worried about left or right getting an advantage, I think it all averages out. Truthfully, it would result in a lot more people voting if they felt their vote actually counted towards something. How often has the popular vote winner not won the presidency? Only twice in my lifetime, this year and Gore/Bush (which was highly contested). Florida going one way by a small percentage of votes should not count the same as NY going one way by a much larger percentage. Many more people voted in Florida as a result, since the gap was within 150K votes instead of 1.5M votes. “If the manner of it be not perfect, it is at least excellent." -Alexander Hamilton California and New York don't need any more electoral votes imo. It's so odd that in the quest for change, some Americans voted for a rich dude born with a silver spoon in his mouth who's never given a damn about anyone but himself.
Equally amusing. The Dodger boards are full of rabid conservative, alt-right dudes. The Laker boards seem more full of reasonable people. Generational gap? I have no idea.

I think we need a registry of people who voted for him and those people should be held liable for all of the damage he causes. Right now, because of his business holdings all over the world it would be illegal for him to keep his business (or allow his family to run it) because of the obvious conflict of interest. As in, if he's making trade or even legislative deals with other countries he could very very easily do so on behalf of his own benefit. It's been reported that his infrastructure package that he intends to introduce to congress could be "skimmed from the top" in terms of the budget. But Donald Trump is an honest man of great integrity would never do that right? Intellectually incapable deplorable cunts.

A lot of baseball fans are older and more conservative in general. Just go to a typical baseball stadium during a game especially in the Midwest. You're not going to see a lot of people of color in those ballparks.

Basically the mass majority of people outside major cities. Why not get a registry on who voted for every president and hold them liable for the damage and debt they caused?

Because we've yet to be governed by a fascist authoritarian. In this case, for a leader wth no accountability, his supporters IMO deserve all of the blame and liability.
